The North Face Tadpole 23 was designed for the weight conscious backpacker. At just over 4 lbs, the Tadpole is one of the lightest two-person tents in the North Face line up. Every effort was taken to reduce weight, and improve efficiency for fast packing. Excess space, and non-essential features were scaled back, and a new and improved silicone rain fly was added for water repellency. The Tadpole is freestanding, and suitable for fly-pitching. (For minimalist camping, this means leaving the tent home, and pitching the rain fly over the aluminum poles. Be sure to put the requisite Tadpole footprint under the poles to keep sleeping bags clean.) The door is D-shaped, the floor is a factory sealed, nylon taffeta true bucket floor, and the poles are DAC Featherlite aluminum. Sleeves and clips (Fusion Pitch) keep the structure of the tent taut at all times, while air circulates freely through the wide mesh panels and D-shaped door. Extra storage space for hard gear is available in the vestibule, and must get-to items can be tucked away in the internal pockets or dangled from the hang loops. Compression stuff sack completes the package.
