The North Face Blaze 3D Sleeping Bag is one of North Face’s most popular 3-season, synthetic insulation filled sleeping bags, and no wonder – it’s good down to 20º F, and cost just a little over $100 for a regular sized bag. Unless you’re doing extreme winter camping, this is all the bag you need, even for those outings where you expect rainy, wet conditions. (Remember, a wet synthetic bag will still keep you warm, and once you’re home, just put it into a tumble dryer to revive it.) The Blaze 3D has many of the technical features found on the more expensive down bags rated for the same temperature. Full-length draft tubes along the zipper, and an insulated chest-level heat trap baffle, as well as a forehead comfort tube prevent body heat from escaping out the zipper or through the top of the bag. After a weary day on the trail, you’ll appreciate the small conveniences of the easy-grab pull tab that make zippering fast and easy, and one hand color-coded pull cords allow you to make hood adjustments while inside the bag. Notorious cold spots have been eliminated by overlapping shingle construction, which also helps distribute the bag’s warmth, and finally, once in the bag, you’ll savor the soft feel of the taffeta lining against your skin. Stuffed into a compression stuffsack, the Blaze 3D compresses down to an acceptable 9.5” x 18”. Remember, when not in use, keep your bag in the mesh storage bag that comes with the Blaze.
