The North Face Crestone 60 backpack is a mid-capacity pack designed with multi-day backpacking in mind, like the 500 mile Impossible Journey Trail through the Red Rock country of Southern Utah. This is a brutal hike that follows portions of the Old Spanish Trail, to the Colorado River, then crosses Canyonlands National Park, and the north end of the Henry Mountains before dropping into the Escalante River. The trail exits the river and follows the Hole-in-the-Rock Road to Lake Powell, which after crossing picks up the old Mormon Trail and follows it to the head of Grand Gulch, into Combs Wash, and on to the San Juan River. By now, you’re almost dead, but you still have to climb the dugout to the top of the mesa, and trek the last 13 miles into Bluff, Utah - the ending point. At the Recapture Lodge you can collapse. Ain't nobody made this journey yet, but if someone does complete it, the Crestone 60 is the pack to do it with. The Crestone has a unique x-frame suspension system that allows for adjustable torso length. The pack is top loading, but has a zippered front pocket that gives access to the main compartment. Your sleeping bag is contained in its own zippered compartment. The hood is removable and doubles as a lumbar daypack. Daisy chains, tool loops, and x-bungee attach gear that you may need immediate access to, while side and bottom compression straps will secure the entire load closer to your body for better carrying. The Crestone is hydration compatible and will augment the two side water bottles. The Impossible Journey Trail is a logistical nightmare, but with the right equipment and determination - it's do-able.
