The North Face Catalyst 60 backpack is a mid-capacity, multi-day pack featuring a revolutionary suspension system that works dynamically with the body to transfer the load equally to the hips regardless of the position of the body. In simple terms, this means that the pelvis can twist and turn in any direction, and the load will stay balanced on the hips, which can be a significant advantage when scrambling over logs, rocks, and other trail obstacles. This unique balancing act is achieved by two load-bearing flex arms that extend from the load equalizer to distribute the weight to the center of the hips. As you walk, bend forward, twist from side to side, or climb - your pack load is continuously being centered over your hips, thus reducing overall fatigue and improving comfort. What is the overall benefit to this high tech suspension system, in one word - it's BALANCE. Your load is where it's suppose to be regardless of the awkward position your body may be in while hiking/trekking/climbing. The Catalyst 60 is top loading, but you don't have to empty the pack to retrieve an item located at the bottom. Side panels zip open to give access to bottom lurkers, as well as the sleeping bag compartment. A fully loaded pack can tower above your head and bang against your noggin, but the cranial cavity virtually eliminates this problem. The back panel is molded foam covered with airmesh to keep your backside dry. Other notable features include a lid that converts to a fanny pack, compression side straps, daisy chains, two water bottle pockets, adjustable torso length and is hydration compatible. A very high tech, practical backpack that has a close resemblance to a Swiss Army Knife.
