The Brunton Liberty Mantleless Lantern is nothing short of a revolution in the outdoor illumination department. Imagine, a lantern with no mantle. Pull the Liberty out of its container and hold it in the palm of your hand - it looks all the world like a finely crafted, Stainless steel, miniature, model airplane engine. In manufacturing this lantern, Brunton did the unthinkable, they replaced the fabric mantle with a platinum element whose glow in reflected by two highly polished, reflective metal mirrors. The total effect of this incredible innovation is that you can direct the light precisely where you need/want it. It's virtually windproof, has an auto igniter, and totally hassle free. Just take it out of its durable nylon case, screw it into the top of Brunton gas canister, push the piezo electrical ignition and you’ve created light. Weight is a mere 8.3 ounces, and burn time is up to six hours with an 8 ounce Brunton gas canister. Consider what this technology means when it's a bitter, cold day on the trail, when your fingers feel like small clubs, when in preparing camp, you find that your other miniature lantern has a disintegrated mantle... Next trip, go with the Brunton Liberty.
